Working visit of the president Armen Sarkissian to Washington

President Armen Sarkissian, who is at the United States on a three-day visit, on June 26 participated at the reception in the Dirksen Senate Office Building dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Armenian Republic. The festive event organized jointly by the Embassy of Armenia to the US, ARF Eastern Region Central Committee and the Washington Office of Armenian Cause (Hay Dat), concluded a series of events at the East Coast of the US dedicated to the centennial of the First Republic. 


At the event, President Sarkissian made a statement in which he spoke in particular about the role and significance of the First Armenian Republic, highlighted the importance of the friendly relations between Armenia and the United States and the need to deepen them further, about having a powerful and developed state which will make proud Armenians all over the world.

The message today is clear. We will do it. We will win. We will show the world not only revolution Armenian-style, we can not only build a country and call it a new Armenia, but that new Armenia is going to be a powerful country, a country that we all will be proud of, and we will march the world being proud Armenians,” said the President.

The reception was attended by the members of the US Congress and Senate, high-ranking US officials, several hundreds of representatives of the Armenian community of America who have arrived from different parts of the country.

President Armen Sarkissian, who is at the United States on a working visit, on June 27 visited the National Memorial on Theodore Roosevelt Island. Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States.

The President of Armenia laid a wreath at the memorial of Theodore Roosevelt and paid tribute to the memory of the great state figure who throughout his tenure in office spoke in defense of the rights of Armenians and other Christian minorities in the Ottoman Empire. Theodore Roosevelt was also known for his brave position on protection of the rights of the victims of the Genocide.

On June 27, in Washington President Armen Sarkissian met with a group of members of the World Bank and International Monetary Club of the Employees of the Armenian nationality.

In the morning of June 28, President Armen Sarkissian, who is visiting Washington, DC, had a working brunch with the leadership of the US Congressional Armenian Caucasus.

The President stressed the importance of expanding the legal field for the enhancement of the bilateral economic relations and underscored Armenia’s interest in resuming cooperation with the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

President Armen Sarkissian, who is Washington on a working visit, on June 28 held a Q&A session with the Armenian inters at the US Congress, Senate, Smithsonian Institute and other establishments. The meeting was organized through the assistance of the Armenian Assembly of America. 

Later same day, the President of Armenia had a working dinner with the leadership of the Armenian Assembly of America. At the Embassy of Armenia to the United States, President Sarkissian met with the representatives of the Ramkavar-Azatakan political party.

On June 29, in Washington President Armen Sarkissian attended the unveiling ceremony for the memorial of the first ambassador of Armenia to the United States Armen Garo (Garegin Pastermajian). The bust of the first Ambassador representing Armenia at the United States in 1918-1920, was erected in the courtyard of the RA Embassy of Armenia in the framework of the events dedicated to the centennial of the First Armenian Republic.

President Sarkissian in his remarks noted in particular the important role that the First Armenian Republic had and underscored that it is being reborn once again with each our new accomplishment. He also said words of commendation for the first Armenian Ambassador to the United States.

President Armen Sarkissian, who is in Washington, DC on a working visit, met with the leadership of the Armenian National Committee. The President of Armenia welcomed and hailed the activities of the Armenian organizations which constantly pursue the issues of Pan-Armenian importance.

On June 29, the last day of his working visit to Washington, DC, President Armen Sarkissian met with the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. 

During the warm and candid conversation, President Sarkissian said that Armenia attaches importance to a steadfast development of the Armenian-American partnership and presented to the State Secretary the readiness of the “New Armenia” to continue to strengthen the relations with the United States. 

President of Armenia made an inscription at the Book of Guests of the State Department.
