Addressing the veterans the President of Armenia said, “First, I want to cordially congratulate you on the occasion of Victory Day and in your person all those who contributed to the victory.

On these occasions we usually speak about the direct participants of the events: soldiers, officers, generals who were fighting the evil and brought victory to all of us. We should not forget of course those who were working behind the front lines giving their hope, compassion and faith and working tirelessly to assist soldiers and officers in achieving this victory.

We have met on many occasions and you are well aware of my opinion: I have always stated that without your example, without the example of our grandfathers fighting in WWII, in our modern history we probably wouldn’t be able to defend our motherland, our independence and our territorial integrity.

Our gratitude to you for your service and for your work in educating and up-bringing young generations. Your personal example is very important for their patriotic education.”

During candid discussions the veterans shared with the President of Armenia some of their socio-economic problems. They noted that recently attention and care of the state for the veterans have augmented significantly. Serzh Sarkissian assured them that the raised issues would also be addressed expeditiously.

The veterans talked also with the President about the state affairs and said that they should be resolved in the atmosphere of stability, unity and security of Armenia. Stressing the importance of the national unity and solidarity, they stated that “they are standing behind the authorities, they believe the country is on the right track and fully support the President’s policy.”
