President Serzh Sargsyan received European Parliament Deputy Frank Engel

 

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Deputy of the European Parliament and the Deputy Chairman of the EU-Armenia Friendship Group Frank Engel.

The president welcomed the guest in our country and stressed the importance of conducting an active dialogue with our friends from the European community. According to the president, the latter gives a positive impulse to the Armenia-EU relations. Serzh Sargsyan made sure that such meetings afforded a good opportunity not only to discuss the development prospects of the EU-Armenia relations, but also to exchange opinions on the challenges and problems which Armenia faced.

The President of Armenia underscored that the European Union had been one of the important partners of the Republic of Armenia and it would continue to remain as such. He added that Armenia’s cooperation with the EU was first of all based on common value system.

The president expressed his gratitude to the EU-Armenia Friendship Group for its activities directed to reinforce the ties between Armenia and the European Union and for the willingness to always support Armenia.

Serzh Sargsyan assured that Armenia’s European agenda had not been changed and our country was committed to continue carrying out institutional reforms making up the axis of the relations with the EU.

At the meeting, the interlocutors also touched upon regional issues and challenges. In that context, President Serzh Sargsyan underlined that in the region served by the Eastern Partnership the peaceful settlement of conflicts was of primary importance and Armenia would continue making efforts at reaching the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
