President Serzh Sargsyan receives Head of RF Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin

President Serzh Sargsyan today received Alexander Bastrykin, Head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (RF).

The head of state noted that the tragedy which took place in Gyumri on January 12, 2015 requires unprecedented consistency to reveal all its details. With regard to the investigation of the crime, the Armenian President stressed that the two country’s law-enforcement bodies should continue to cooperate effectively, following the process through to its logical end.

At the meeting, the Head of the RF Investigative Committee, A. Bastrykin, noted that they have reached perfect mutual understanding with their Armenian colleagues and they have a clear idea of what kind of work RF authorized bodies need to do to support the investigation being conducted by Armenian law-enforcement bodies. Within that frame, the actions carried out by Russian authorized bodies both at the military base stationed in Gyumri and in the RF territory are directed at ensuring a comprehensive investigation of the crime and all its circumstances, finding the killers and holding them accountable. A. Bastrykin also expressed confidence that a public enquiry into the case to be conducted in the Republic of Armenia will become the testimony to the two sides’ aspiration to achieve justice and ensure a fair trial.
