President Serzh Sargsyan meets with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Moscow

President Serzh Sargsyan, who has paid a working visit to the Russian Federation, today had a meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Moscow.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to bilateral collaboration in the political, economic, cultural and other spheres. They attached importance to the further development of the relationship between Armenia and Egypt based on centuries-old friendship and to the need to give a new impulse to that relationship. The presidents placed great value on the intensification of reciprocal visits to strengthen bilateral ties. President Serzh Sargsyan expressed the hope that the reforms undertaken by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi aimed at the establishment of stability in Egypt and its development and which have already yielded some positive results, will also prepare the ground to develop Armenian-Egyptian relations as actively and effectively as previously.

The Egyptian president expressed confidence that those relations and cooperation will develop much more rapidly than previously. He noted that his country has passed through very difficult times, and last year much was done to establish security and stability in Egypt. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi praised the Armenian-Egyptian community, noting that in Egypt Armenians have always been treated as their brothers. Armenia’s and Egypt’s presidents attached importance to the role of the Armenian-Egyptian community in the strengthening of friendship between the two countries. In this context, they stressed the name of Nubar Pasha, a Egyptian political figure and the first Prime Minister of Egypt, who played a major role in Egypt’s statehood building.

At the meeting, the parties also touched upon the ongoing events to mark the Armenian Genocide Centennial, the current situation in the Middle East and upon other regional issues.
