President Serzh Sargsyan visited the Sourb Karapet Armenian Church in Maastricht

President Serzh Sargsyan, who has arrived on a working visit at the Kingdom of Netherlands to participate at the Summit of the European People’s Party (EPP), this morning in Maastricht visited the Armenian Sourb Karapet Church where he had a brief meeting with the representatives of the Church Board of “Ani” Armenian community, conversed about their daily life, programs, opportunities for strengthening cooperation with Fatherland, and responded to the questions raised by the participants of the meeting.

“Ani” Armenian community, which was named after the historical Armenian capital, is taking active part in the events of the Armenian-Dutch organizations related to the pan-Armenian issues.

In 2012, by the decision of the Catholic Church of Limburg, the Resurrection of Christ Church was presented to the Armenian community which at the beginning of 2013 was consecrated as Sourb Karapet Church in the memory of the old Armenian Church in Amsterdam. The Church was presented as a token of gratitude to Saint Servatius of the Armenian descent who was considered to be a disciple of Saint Gregory the Illuminator and the saint patron of Maastricht, as well as for the positive contribution of Ani community and the Armenian community of Maastricht in general to the development of the city and the state.
