President Serzh Sargsyan received Her Royal Highness, Princess Dina Mired of Jordan

President Serzh Sargsyan received today the President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired, who has arrived to Armenia at the invitation of the Yerevan State Medical University to participate at the Congress of the Cancer Survivors organized by the YSMU and the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology.

The President of Armenia highly praised participation of Her Royal Highness at the important and essential event organized in Armenia.

According to the President, events like this one are of the best ways to break the existing stereotypes regarding cancer and presenting those who have survived that grave illness, which is extremely important. Serzh Sargsyan expressed confidence that Princess Dina Mired through her own example as well as ex officio - as the President of the Union for International Cancer Control will have an important role in the establishment and development of cooperation with Armenia in the area of cancer prevention and oncology.

President Sargsyan recalled warmly his official visit to Jordan in 2014 and underscored that Armenia is interested in deepening political dialogue with Jordan and in strengthening the bilateral relations.

Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired of Jordan thanked the President of Armenia for receiving her and noted that she was extremely happy to be in the wonderful Armenia.

She heard a lot about Armenia in her home country where the existing Armenian community is pretty large, trusted, and well-respected. As the newly elected President of the Union for International Cancer Control, Dina Mired presented the main goal of her visit to Armenia, spoke about the activities and programs of the organization headed by her and discussed with President Sargsyan opportunities and means of achieving success in fighting cancer in Armenia. Towards that end, the parties stressed the importance of creating a national program. According to Princess Mired, the implementation of the program will be supported by the Union for International Cancer Control and other interested organizations.

The Princess of Jordan also stressed the importance of the fight against smoking, which often provokes cancer, and hailed works carried out in recent years in Armenia in that area, and asked to be persistent in fighting that very harmful habit.
