Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs reports on Ministry-implemented activities

During today’s working meeting with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Hrachya Rostomyan reported on the achievements of Armenian national team athletes in European and World championships in the events featuring on the State assistance program, the steps to take in order to build on these achievements, as well as the activities aimed at promoting mass sports events, implementing the Government’s policy in the field of youth affairs, dealing with the problems faced in these areas through structural changes and new programs.

Hrachya Rostomyan advised that 7 new mass sports programs had been developed and implemented by the Ministry, involving the representatives of different social and age groups, ranging from pre-school age to elderly people, disabled persons, children in need of special care and protection.

The Minister was instructed to enlarge the scope of participants in the annual Best Sports Family award and other mass sports events held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Armenia. Minister Rostomyan assured that owing to new programs, the number of participants in mass sports events will exceed the mark of 85 thousand by this yearend. Efforts will continue to be made in line with the presidential instruction.

The Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs said the Ministry has developed concepts for the promotion of sport among disabled persons and the development of “neighborhood” sports, as well as the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Culture and Sports in Armenia.

The President instructed him to focus on the promotion of sports tourism in the country, speed up work on the development of a relevant concept and consider providing better conditions for the development of ski, water and other sports in the country. The Minister was further told to endeavor towards increasing the number of Armenian athletes with disabilities participating in international competitions.
