President receives EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Commission delegation

President Serzh Sargsyan received the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Commission delegation, headed by Commission Co-Chairman Sajjad Karim. The delegation is in Armenia to attend the 17th session of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Commission in Yerevan.

Greeting the guests, the President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that Armenia’s relations with the European Parliament keep developing and expanding in both bilateral and multilateral dimensions. The President attached great importance to the promotion of inter-parliamentary dialogue through sustained active contacts between parliamentarians. Serzh Sargsyan made a point of using the format of parliamentary cooperation commission.

The Head of State said he was aware of the Yerevan session’s hectic agenda, and expressed the hope that the decisions made during the session would contribute to the deepening of cooperation between Armenia and the European Union in a wide range of areas.

Highlighting the Final Statement adopted by the Commission, the President hailed their appreciation of the latest developments in EU-Armenia relations, including the signing of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, as well as the balanced position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in terms of supporting the OSCE Minsk Group’s mediation efforts.

On behalf of the Commission, Sajjad Karim thanked President Sargsyan for reception, appreciation of inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as for sincere and open dialogue with them.

The parties refereed to the provisions of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the Statement, as well as the follow-up work to be done in Armenia after the signing of the Agreement. During the meeting, the President of Armenia answered the questions of interest to Parliamentarians.
