President attends Bookinist bookstore on the occasion of Book Giving Day

On Book Giving Day, President Serzh Sargsyan called at Bookinist bookstore in Yerevan, where he met with top executives of several publishing homes: Mkrtich Karapetyan from Edit Print, Sokrat Mkrtchyan from Zangak Print, Armen Martirosyan from Antares and Khachik Vardanyan from Bookinist Company.

At a tea-table meeting, the President and the publishing home executives talked about the sphere’s latest achievements and problems, book publishing and sales-related issues with a focus on the efforts aimed at improving the activities of libraries and bookstores, the prospects of public-private sector cooperation in order to promote book reading, etc. The publishers came up several proposals. The President promised to discuss the proposals with the responsible officials and try to assist them in their endeavors.

Prior to the meeting, the President and the meeting participants congratulated each other on Hovhannes Tumanyan’s birthday and on the occasion of Book Giving Day. President Sargsyan noted that the good tradition of celebrating the Book Giving Day is indeed one of the best ways of marking the great poet’s birthday. The meeting participants exchanged books as gifts. The President donated “Civilization: what is the different between the West and the Rest” by British historian Niall Ferguson.

The Director of Bookinist presented President Serzh Sargsyan with the Armenian translation of Encyclopedia of Knowledge, published jointly with an English publisher, which has a separate section dedicated to Armenia.

The General Director of Zangak publishing house donated to the President the History of Armenian Art, which presents the historical background of Armenian fine arts and architecture, from ancient times to our days.

President of Antares Media Holding presented Serzh Sargsyan with the two-volume edition of Man without Properties by Austrian writer and philosopher Robert Mucile, which presents the thoughts of an investigative scientist about the mystery of life and the everlasting struggle between nature and man.

The President of Edit Print publishing house donated their latest translations: The Three Friends by Eric Maria Remark, The Little Prince and The Land of People by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Stars are Guilty by John Grin.

Bookinist Director Khachik Vardanyan briefed the President on his company’s latest achievements, including the expansion of the Bookinist network and, especially, the program of establishing bookstores in the provinces. Serzh Sargsyan toured the bookstore to get acquainted with the most up-to-date and best-selling books offered by Bookinist, including specialized literature.
