President receives Madagascar Foreign Minister

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received Henry Rabary-Njaka, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Madagascar which holds the presidency in the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Greeting the guest, the President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that the relations between Armenia and Madagascar have been on the rise recently, especially after Armenia’s membership of the International Organization of La Francophonie. Serzh Sargsyan underlined that the two countries had cooperated in the framework of La Francophonie as they supported each other in assuming the presidency of the Organization.

The President expressed the hope that as an active member of the International Organization of La Francophonie, Madagascar will attend the Summit at the highest level. The Summit will be held in Armenia on October 11-12, within the framework of which a business forum is to be organized with wide involvement of companies and enterprises from Francophone countries. The interlocutors agreed that the business forum could provide a platform for developing economic relations between Armenia and Madagascar.

Noting that the geographical divide is no longer an impediment to developing cooperation between the two countries, President Sargsyan considered that the visits of the Foreign Minister and the President of Madagascar, scheduled for this May, would be a good opportunity to discuss cooperation prospects.

Madagascar’s Foreign Minister thanked the President of Armenia for a warm welcome and assured that the upcoming State visit of his country’s President might give fresh impetus to bilateral relationship, especially in the economic sphere, where there is considerable potential for interaction in tourism, high technology, agriculture and in other branches.

The Minister advised that business community representatives and MPs will arrive in Armenia from Madagascar to build close inter-parliamentary ties with the Armenian legislature, which by that time will have shifted to the parliamentary system of governance.
