President receives Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia.

The President of Armenia welcomed and congratulated the guest on his appointment as Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Georgia. Serzh Sargsyan said he had kept warm recollections of his last year’s Yerevan meeting with Giorgi Gakharia in another position - Minister for Economy and Sustainable Development – at which the parties discussed the Armenian-Georgian trade and economic relations. President Sargsyan also spoke about the fond memories of his last year’s official visit to Georgia and the meetings held with the country’s top leadership and the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

In this context, the President highlighted the importance of mutual visits in the strengthening of bilateral relations and expressed the hope that Minister Gakharia’s visit might add momentum to the furtherance of cooperation between the law enforcement authorities of Armenia and Georgia.

The interlocutors stressed the need for closer cooperation in this field in a bid to promote security and stability in the two friendly countries in terms of ensuring progress and ever new achievements in economic, humanitarian and other spheres.

Giorgi Gakharia briefed the President of Armenia on the agreements reached with the Armenian Chief of Police during their latest fruitful meeting, which covered the border regions where there are specific challenges. Minister Gakharia expressed his strong belief that those challenges would be much easier to cope with through joint efforts.
