Working visit of President Sargsyan to Astana

On July 5, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan participated at the session of the Interstate Council of the Eurasian Economic Community (EvrAzEs) held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. In this Organization Armenia holds observer status since 2003.

The session of the Council was attended also by the Presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The Heads of State conducted negotiations in the closed and later in the open format. At the end of the session they signed concluding documents.

At the session discussed were in particular issues related to the formation of a customs union in the framework of EvrAzEs, the program of joint measures of the member-states aimed at mitigating consequences of the global crisis and other topics related to the functioning of the Organization.

In Astana, President Sargsyan met also with the President of Kyrgyzstan for transitional period Rosa Otunbaeva. President Sargsyan congratulated Mrs. Otumbaeva on assuming this position and wished her success. The newly appointed President of Kyrgyzstan presented the economic and political situation in her country and the steps of the transitional government aimed at the democratization of the country.

In the framework of his visit to Astana, President Sargsyan also attended the official reception dedicated to Capital’s Day.
