President received Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze

President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze.

The President welcomed the guest on the occasion of his first official visit to the Republic of Armenia and expressed hope that the will visit give a new impetus to the deepening of the Armenian-Georgian bilateral friendly relations. Serzh Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that the high level contacts and political dialogue between Armenia and Georgia based on the traditionally good neighborly relations and centuries-long friendship of the two peoples in recent years have become more active. The President of Armenia recalled warmly his working visit to Georgia conducted last October, during which he held fruitful meetings with the leadership of the country and discussed important issues of the bilateral agenda, including a wide range of issues related to a mutually beneficial cooperation. From the viewpoint of the implementation of the reached agreements, the President of Armenia stressed the importance of the active work of the intergovernmental commission, as well as close contacts held in the interparliamentary format.

The President of Armenia and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia concurred that Armenia and Georgia being engaged in different integration processes – Armenia is a member of the EEU, while Georgia signed the Association Agreement with the EU, hold great potential to develop cooperation also in the framework of these processes related to the experience exchange and implementation of joint programs. According to the parties, it will raise the Armenian-Georgian relations to a qualitatively new level.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze also stressed the importance of the RA President’s visit to Georgia conducted in the end of last year and expressed confidence that there are opportunities along with the high level of political relations to develop economic ties, and implement new prospective joint programs.

Serzh Sargsyan and Mikheil Janelidze highlighted the importance of maintaining by the two countries of a balanced and respectful toward each other’s interests policy when it comes to sensitive issues which are a matter of principle for each of the parties, as well as the efficient Armenian-Georgian cooperation in the framework of international organizations.

The parties discussed also issues pertinent to regional security, existing problems and challenges, and the NK peace process.
