On May 28, sailboat Armenia will start on a world cruise

On May 28, sailboat Armenia will start on a world cruise from Valencia, Spain, tracking the routs of the worldwide spread Armenian Diasporas. During a one year tour, Armenia will drop anchor on five continents, pass three oceans – Atlantic, Pacific and Indian – and will visit all places where Armenian communities live.

Before sailing the crew of Armenia was received by President Serzh Sargsyan.

Noting, that many may doubt that in the 21st century, when there are no restricted lands on the maps, such a difficult voyage is really important, the President of Armenia said, “the destiny of our people was such that there are Armenians in all corners of the world, and the world of our national identity is very important for us, the map of our cultural heritage is important, as is the history of the Armenian communities.” According to Serzh Sargsyan, the mission of this expedition is to rediscover and enrich that world. “You are going to give a new impetus, to breath in Motherland’s ardor into the Armenian communities, to rediscover anew the formula of our national identity and map our cultural relics spread all over the world,” the President of Armenia underscored.

Serzh Sargsyan handed to the crew the state flag of the Republic of Armenia, which, according to the established tradition, upon the sailboat’s return will be deposited.

The President of Armenia wished the crew of Armenia wind in their sails, fine voyage, and safe return.

The writer and journalist Zori Balayan, who is a member of the Armenia crew, thanked the President of Armenia and said that the crew would report periodically on their progress.
