President receives James Appathurai, NATO Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia

 

President Serzh Sargsyan today received James Appathurai, the NATO-Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the fact that Armenia-NATO relations are developing normally, and there is a mutual desire to keep on deepening their effective political dialogue and partnership in all cooperation areas.

At the outset of the meeting, James Appathurai expressed his gratitude for Armenia’s involvement in NATO-led peacekeeping operations in the Caucasus and Afghanistan and for the contribution made so far, underscoring that Armenia’s participation both in NATO and UN-led operations, as well as in peacekeeping capacity building reiterates Armenia’s commitment to helping promote international peace and stability and boosting partnership.

In terms of further enhancing cooperation, the parties attached great importance to the renewed Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan for 2014-2016.

At the meeting, the RA President and the NATO Secretary-General’s Special Representative also reflected upon regional issues, the NKR peace process and the present concerns, contemporary international challenges and the measures aimed at dealing with them.
