President Serzh Sargsyan attends opening of newly-built AGBU headquarters building

President Serzh Sargsyan today attended the opening ceremony of the headquarters building of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) in Yerevan.

The union launched the construction project in 2010 on the capital’s Melik-Adamyan Street in the vicinity of the RA government building. The building is aimed at providing conditions for broadening of the union’s charitable, cultural, educational and youth projects, as well as for realization of new patriotic projects.

During the tour, the Armenian President was informed that the newly-built AGBU building occupies around 1300m2 of area upon which rises a modern five-storey building equipped with every office convenience, meeting halls, exhibition halls and an underground parking. According to the executives, the design of the previous building has been restored by combining modern constructing solutions and historical-cultural peculiarities of the old architectural style. During the design and construction works, a special attention was paid to the satisfaction of such urban building requirements which allow the preservation of the elements peculiar to the environment of the old Yerevan center.

According to the union’s executives, located in Yerevan’s center, the AGBU building will give the union an opportunity to broaden its various educational, cultural and youth projects, thereby becoming a new hotbed for the reinforcement of homeland-diaspora ties.
