President receives Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko

President Serzh Sargsyan today received the delegation headed by the Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko.

At the meeting, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the fact that the decentralized cooperation between Armenia’s marzes and the Russian Federation’s subjects lies at the forefront of the development of strategic partnership between Armenia and Russia. In that context, the Armenian President welcomed the visit of the governor of Saint Petersburg to Yerevan which, according to the President, provided a good opportunity to discuss issues pertaining to the enlargement and deepening of multifaceted collaboration with Yerevan. Praising the current status of the inter-allied strategic relationship between Armenia and Russia, Serzh Sargsyan noted that he also had a chance to discuss issues related to the bilateral agenda and its promotion, as well as to further strengthening of relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin who had arrived in Yerevan a few days ago in connection with the Armenian Genocide Centennial. According to the President, frequent reciprocal visits and contacts at various levels considerably contribute to the further reinforcement of bilateral ties.

Governor Georgy Poltavchenko thanked the Armenian President for the reception and his counterpart, the Yerevan mayor, for the invitation and warm hospitality. He expressed satisfaction with the close cooperation between Yerevan and Saint Petersburg which has been reinforced with the Five-Year Program for Trade and Economic, Scientific Engineering and Humanitarian Cooperation concluded today between the Yerevan Municipality and the Government of Saint Petersburg within the frames of his visit.

The Armenian President and the governor of Saint Petersburg agreed that there is great potential for promotion of multi-sectoral collaboration which can be achieved through making consistent efforts. The interlocutors also attached importance to the role of the influential Armenian community of Saint Petersburg in enhancing bilateral ties.
