President receives delegation led by head of Korea-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Noh Young-min

President Serzh Sargsyan received today a delegation led by Noh Young-min, head of the Korea-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.

The president welcomed the guests and expressed the hope that the delegation’s visit to Armenia will give a fresh impulse to Armenian-Korean friendly relations, taking into account the role of parliamentary diplomacy in interstate relations. Apart from official meetings, Serzh Sargsyan also attached importance to the Korean parliamentarians’ visits to historical-cultural sites in Armenia to get a better idea of the Armenian people’s millenniums-old history and their spiritual and cultural heritage. Noting that he is aware that the delegation led by Mr. Noh Young-min’s has visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex, the Armenian president expressed his gratitude to Noh Young-min for his caring attitude towards the issue of the Armenian Genocide, taking into consideration his book titled “Modern Tragedy” the first chapter of which talks about the Armenian genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire. “Thanks to the efforts of such people like you, the truth about crimes against humanity is delivered to the world with the aim of preventing their further repetition through recognition and condemnation,” said President Serzh Sargsyan. The president greatly appreciated the photo exhibition devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial which was held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, which, according to him, once again shows the caring attitude of Korea and its people towards this issue.

The head of the Korea-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group mentioned that visiting the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, they felt great pain for what they saw and heard at the Armenian Genocide Museum and stressed that it is very important not to forget what happened: “Remembering the genocide first of all implies preventing future misfortunes,” said Noh Young-min.

The RA president and the members of the Korea-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group discussed the opportunities to further strengthen and deepen multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, placing importance on frequent reciprocal visits and contacts, which, according to them, will give new impetus to bilateral collaboration and will add new mutually beneficial and promising dimensions to the Armenian-Korean agenda.
At the meeting, the parties expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Korea within the framework of international organizations.

President Serzh Sargsyan expressed his thanks to Korea’s government for the support and technical assistance provided to Armenia.

The interlocutors also touched upon regional issues and challenges.
