President received the Minister of Energy of Iran Hamid Chitchian

President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Co-Chair of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission Hamid Chitchian.

The President welcomed the guest and his delegation and noted with satisfaction that the timetable of the sessions of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission is always observed properly: it’s been one year since the last session took place and now in Yerevan the commission holds its 13th session. Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that the agenda of bilateral relations after this session has become even more substantial and that new agreements have been reached. In deepening relations with the friendly Iran, President Serzh Sargsyan stressed the important role of the intergovernmental commission and personal input of the Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian. Underscoring that Armenia attaches the utmost importance to the relations with the friendly Iran, the President of Armenia noted that the sincere dialogue between the two countries and mutual trust assume keeping on with dynamics of the high level reciprocal visits which will allow to further expand and develop the bilateral agenda.

The parties stressed the importance of enhancing the trade and economic relations and necessity to fully utilize existing potential. The President of Armenia and Hamid Chitchian discussed in detail the process of implementation of the programs, which have a special import for Armenia and Iran, including programs related to infrastructure as well as new programs, and possibilities of carrying out mutually beneficial investment projects.

Serzh Sargsyan and Hamid Chitchian spoke also about issues pertaining to regional cooperation. In this context, they noted with satisfaction that the North-South energy project is becoming a reality which supposes synchronized work of the energy systems of Iran, Armenia, Georgia, and Russia. According to the Minister of Energy of Iran, the four-way talks between the representatives of the energy sectors of the mentioned countries, which took place yesterday, were an important and efficient step for the solidarity of the countries of the region and they will give a new impetus to the development of cooperation in bilateral, as well as in multilateral formats.
