President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Special Representative of the OSCE PA on the South Caucasus Kristian Vigenin.

Welcoming the guest to our country, the President of Armenia underscored that Armenia highly values the role of the OSCE as an important organization responsible for the pan-European security and the central platform for its members to talk to each other as legally equal states. According to the President, the parliamentary format of the OSCE provides great opportunities to use contacts between the parliamentarians for cooperation and dialogue to promote security and to encourage open communication among the nations. Serzh Sargsyan expressed confidence that Kristian Vigenin’s rich experience as a parliamentarian, as well as a former member of the Bulgarian Government will allow him to approach tasks in front of him more comprehensively.

Noting that as a result of the December 6, 2015 referendum in Armenia our country will switch to the parliamentary model of governance, the President expressed confidence that the work of the Armenian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE will become more active.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Special Representative of the OSCE PA on the South Caucasus congratulated the President of Armenia on the important step taken in Vienna and aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution of the NK conflict. Kristian Vigenin noted that lasting peace requires great efforts. According to the Special Representative, the OSCE PA sees its role in supporting efforts made for reaching peace. “I reiterate that for the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE there is no alternative to a peaceful resolution of the NK conflict, and OSCE PA fully supports activities of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group,” stressed Kristian Vigenin.
