President attends YSU Board of Trustees annual meeting

President of the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University Serzh Sargsyan attended the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University Foundation.

The Board discussed and approved the Rector’s reports on the work done in 2016-2017 and the activities planned for the 2016-2017 academic year as part of the 2016-2020 YSU Strategic Development Program. The academic year 2016-2017 was described as satisfactory.

The meeting took note of YSU Rector Aram Simonyan’s statement on University’s income and expenditure performance. The Board approved the YSU income and expenditure estimate and the staffing list for FY2018. The President of the Republic answered the questions of Board members. In conclusion, President Sargsyan congratulated YSU Board of Trustees and the students and wished them every success on the occasion of Christmas and New Year holidays.

In his congratulatory remarks, the President assessed 2017 as a successful academic year in terms of achievements and work, which is a good basis for next year to consolidate success in both the economy, foreign policy and other areas, and advance the normal course of development. “By the end of this winter, or maybe by early spring, we will try to summarize the results of our work and, if we really can add anything in 2018, I think we will already have a more satisfaction course of normal development rather than the way, which was full of shocks, problems and crises. But most of all, I appreciate the work done after the elections in the fields of national security and defense.

Our armed forces were provided with new armament, and many reforms were implemented this year. I am convinced that if we keep up the pace, we will not have any security-related problems, more precisely in the armed forces. And no matter many students publicly ask the citizens of the Republic of Armenia to pity us, and protect our homeland, we will not do such things because it is not only our homeland, but also that of everyone. Besides, any such statement made in Armenia becomes the property of both the Azeris and Turks in a few minutes.

The better we work, the more prosperous our country will be. We have no problem with students’ activity, we have no problems with listening to any suggestions, but I think the time has come for each of us to first comply with own duties and then teach others how to do that.

Making suggestions and holding discussions is normal, without which our society can not develop, but when decisions are made, each of us should be at least partly responsible for that decision. I want every one of us to live in that consciousness in 2018, starting with the first-year students.

I want you to enjoy homely warmth in your families so that you could be at peace with yourself first of all and then with others. I want peace in our country,” the President of Armenia said.
