President takes note of ongoing preparations for three major events due in 2018

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan held a consultation on the preparations for the three major events to be held in Armenia in 2018 - Francophonie Summit, celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the May battles, the 2800th anniversary of the foundation of Yerevan. The reports also featured the implementation of the recommendations issued by the President of Armenia at the October 21 consultation.

At the beginning of the consultation, the President of the Republic said he expected substantive discussion on organizational, financial and economic issues, noting that there was not so much time left and it was necessary to strictly observe the work schedule. According to the President of the Republic, the proper holding of such large-scale events since independence is a unique maturity test for the Republic of Armenia.

Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chairman of the Interagency Commission established under the President’s decree, reported on the preparations for the Francophonie Summit which is to be held in Yerevan on October 11-12, 2018.

Vahe Stepanyan, Chief of Government Staff and Secretary of the State Commission established under the President’s decree, reported on the ongoing preparations for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the May battles, as well as on the activities envisaged by the draft Action Plan.

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Jubilee Commission established under the President’s decree, presented the program and the timetable of the planned celebrations of the Yerevan foundation’s 2800th anniversary scheduled for this September 29 and 30, as well as the preparations for a number of related events.

The heads of the ministries and agencies concerned reported on the status of presidential instructions issued during the previous consultation, including on transport and communications, use of aviation, cultural events, work with mass media, design and decoration activities, the release of souvenirs, badges and a number of other activities.
