President receives Luxembourg Foreign and European Affairs Minister

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn who is in Armenia on official visit.

The President of Armenia said he was glad to welcome again to Armenia Minister Jean Asselborn whose warm attitude towards Armenia and the Armenian people, as well as impartial and principled position on issues of concern to Armenia let him be considered Armenia’s friend.

Serzh Sargsyan underscored that Armenia is eager to strengthen and develop relations with Luxembourg in all spheres. According to the Armenian President, there is sufficient potential for developing bilateral relations between Armenia and Luxemburg that can be tapped through close political dialogue, enhanced cooperation between the respective legislatures, as well as by expanding the applicable legal framework.

The sides agreed that the strengthening of Armenia-Luxembourg relations will undoubtedly be promoted by the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which is important for the development of cooperation and advancement of reforms in Armenia.

With reference to the Francophonie summit, President Sargsyan expressed the hope that friendly Luxembourg will provide a top-level presence at the Summit to be held in Armenia this fall.

Thankful for the invitation to attend the upcoming summit, the Luxembourg Minister for Foreign and European Affairs wished Armenia every success in the organization of two other State events - the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the May Heroic Battles and the 2800th Anniversary of Yerevan’s foundation.

President Sargsyan appreciated Luxembourg’s impartial stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and its support for OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts in tune with European Union’s common position. Serzh Sargsyan highly valued and thanked Luxembourg for unanimous adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the country’s Parliament.

The President of Armenia and Minister Jean Asselborn exchanged views on the possibilities and prospects for the furtherance of relations between the two countries.
