President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received a delegation headed by Muhammad Akram al-Ajlani, Deputy Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly who arrived in Armenia to participate in events dedicated to the 109th commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.
Highly appreciating the visit of the delegation headed by Muhammad Akram al-Ajlani, President Khachaturyan thanked for standing by and supporting our country.
The President noted that Armenia highly appreciates the centuries-old traditional, friendly relations between the people of the two countries and attaches importance to the deepening of the Armenian-Syrian multifaceted cooperation.
"What happened in 1915 was not prevented and subsequently was not evaluated, which, unfortunately, led to a repeat of similar events in many countries of the world.
I want to thank the Syrian people, the government, and the authorities who supported our compatriots during those difficult days and, most importantly, hosted them, shared everything they had. We have not forgotten and cannot forget all this. Of course, this is due to our centuries-old relations, which have gone through great trials, but during these trials our relations have strengthened even more. The proof of this is also the fact that in these difficult times for our two countries, we are able to stand by each other again, to be with each other and to support each other," noted President Khachaturyan.
Thanking for the welcome, the Deputy Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly said: "Mr. President, we are very grateful to You for your kind words. Many people know about our feelings and compassionate emotions. Nations that go through the same trials usually feel the same way."
Over the course of the meeting, the opportunities of further expanding close cooperation between the two states in all areas were discussed.
In the context of strengthening cooperation between Armenia and Syria, the sides emphasized the role of parliamentary diplomacy, as well as effective and mutually beneficial cooperation on international platforms. In this context, the important role of the Syrian-Armenian community in deepening the friendship and cooperation between the two nations and states was also stressed.
During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on current events and the general situation in the region and neighboring countries.
The sides stressed the importance of solving existing problems within the framework of the fundamental principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity of the countries and achieving stable and lasting peace.
