Visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to the Nagorno Karabakh Republic

On May 8, 2008, delegation headed by the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan left for the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. The delegation comprised Secretary of the National Security Council, Arthur Baghdassarian, leader of the Armenian Republican Party fraction in the National Assembly Karen Karapetian, Minister of Defense Seiran Ohanian, Minister of Agriculture David Lokian, Minister of Finance Tigran Davtian, Minister of Health Artem Kushkian, and Minister for Emergency Situations Mher Shahgeldian.

Delegation headed by Serzh Sargsyan participated at the events dedicated to the NK Defense Army, 16th Anniversary of Liberation of Shushi, and Victory Day.

On May 8, President of Armenia held a private meeting with the President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakian. At the meeting discussed was a wide range of issues pertaining to the cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. Later same day, President Serzh Sarkissian participated at the commemorative events held at the Officers’ Club in Stepanakert.

On May 9 President Sarkissian visited the Stepanakert Memorial and laid a wreath at the tomb of freedom fighters, who fell during the Artsakh’s liberation war. Later, the delegation headed by Serzh Sargsyan arrived at Shushi. President Sargsyan laid a wreath at the memorial of Vazgen Sarkissian. He also attended the mass held at the Shushi’s Ghazanchetsots Saint Deliverer church on the occasion of the triple holiday, and visited Gandzasar.
