New prospects of cultural cooperation: Spouse of the President Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian and Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah of Kuwait visited Matenadaran

Spouse of the President Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian and Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, the General Director of Kuwait Museum of Islamic Art (DAI) and co-owner of the al-Sahab collection, who is in Armenia at the invitation of Mrs. N. Sarkissian, visited today Matenadaran.

They toured the exhibition halls of the Reaserch Institute of Ancient Manuscripts. The members of the delegation headed by Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah were particularly interested in the Islamic manuscripts exhibited here.

A member of the delegation, Secretary General of the National Council of Kuwait on Culture, Arts, and Literature Kamel Al-Abdul Jalil noted that the main objective of their visit to our country was to give a boost to the development of cultural ties.

“We met with the President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, and inspired by the meeting, we are developing now cooperation programs.

We intend to implement two major programs with Armenia: The Museum of Islamic Art in Kuwait possesses the largest and the oldest exhibits. We will bring them to Armenia; we are also thinking of bringing here ancient Arab and Islamic manuscripts.

Besides, we are planning to organize a Week of Kuwaiti culture in Armenia, and a Week of Armenian culture in Kuwait,” Kamel Al-Abdul Jalil said.

He noted that there is a great potential for cooperation with Matenadaran. “In Kuwait, we have modern devices which allow to digitalize old books and preserve them properly,” the Secretary General of the National Council of Kuwait on Culture, Arts, and Literature underscored.
