On the occasion of passing away of Lord Russell Johnston, a member of the European Parliament and the former President of PACE, President Serzh Sargsyan sent a letter of condolences to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Terry Davis and the President of PACE, Luis Maria de Puig.

The letter states:

“Messieurs,

I was very saddened by the news of the death of Lord Russell Johnston, a member of the European Parliament and the former President of PACE. Throughout his activities Lord Johnston upheld his high repute of the wise statesman and the champion of the human rights. His contribution to the spreading of the values advocated by the Council of Europe is considerable. He also played a significant role in reconciling people alienated by conflicts and in finding ways for conflict resolution. His dedication will continue to inspire all the politicians who will assume that high mission.

I express my heartfelt condolences to you and the family of late Lord Russell Johnston.”
