On the occasion of passing away of Senator Edward Kennedy the Embassy of the United States in Armenia opened a book of condolences

On the occasion of passing away of Senator Edward Kennedy the Embassy of the United States in Armenia opened a book of condolences. President Serzh Sargsyan was among the first to send his message of condolences.
The message states:

“I learned the news of passing away of the great American political figure, Senator Edward Kennedy with deep sorrow.

Senator Kennedy, a representative of the renowned American dynasty of politicians, was a great friend of the Armenian people and for decades worked relentlessly to support initiatives related to the vital interests of Armenia and the Armenian people. Efforts of Senator Edward Kennedy aimed at the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, support of Artsakh’s fight for freedom, delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Armenians who suffered during the earthquake and the armed conflict are hardly to be overestimated.

Memories of Senator Kennedy – a friend, champion of freedom and justice will remain in the hearts of all Armenians.

On behalf of the Armenian people and my own behalf, I express heartfelt condolences to the Kennedy family, to the people and Government of the United States.”
