Address by President Serzh Sarkissian on the occasion of the Day of Police Force

“Dear officers and veterans of the Police Force: I congratulate you on the occasion of the Day of Police Force.

In recent years in the areas of protection of the rights and property of the citizens, as well as in the preservation of public order the Armenian Police Force have recorded a considerable progress. Overall, the officers of the Force have been able to fulfill their important mission. A great work has been done toward the improvement of this area, however there is still much to be done for bringing the work of the Police in compliance with the contemporary requirements and for fight against corruption.

The Armenian authorities will be improving the social conditions of the Police officers. The envisaged steps will include increased wages, steps toward the improvement of working conditions, and technical modernization. All of this is directed toward the enhancement of the Police efficiency.

This year your professional holiday coincides with the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the internal affairs bodies of Armenia. I would like to extend my special congratulations to all the veterans of the Force. I wish you good health and happiness.

Armenia’s rapid progress and multi-faceted development also greatly depend on your performance of your duties and the level of professionalism in approaching different issues. It is no secret that very often the actions of the Police resonate in the society. The March 1 events were difficult times for our country and our people, as well as for the Police Force. Along with our entire society our Police should emerge from that times with honor and some lessons learned.

I congratulate you once again with your professional holiday and wish you success in overcoming the challenges in your difficult but gratifying work.”
