Congratulatory address by President Serzh Sargsyan on the 80th anniversary of the Writers’ Union of Armenia

I cordially congratulate you on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Writer’s Union of Armenia.

The foundation of the first large organization uniting Armenian writers was related to such eminent names of our literature as Charents, Bakunts, Isahakyan, Demirchyan, Zoryan…

Over the last decades the union has been joined by numerous talented individuals of new generations who despite hard times have not only continued the best traditions, but have also developed and enriched the literature with fine writings truly reflecting the new reality. The activities of the Writers’ Union of Armenia during the period of restoring our independence is particularly appreciable, as a result of which our literature was enriched with valuable works about gaining our independence, the Artsakh liberation fight, the consolidation of Armenians and the process of establishing our statehood. I am sure that this series will continue thereby completing the art chronology of our people’s modern history.

I once again congratulate the Writers’ Union of Armenia on this important jubilee and wish all writers inexhaustible creative vigor, good health, further ideas and accomplishments, and I wish readers countless moments of enjoyment.
