Today President Serzh Sargsyan participated at the ceremony of launching the groundwork for the construction of a combined cycle steam and gas power block at the Yerevan thermo-electric station.
In 2005 the Government of Armenia and the International Bank for Cooperation of Japan signed the Memorandum of Understanding regarding the implementation of this project. The main contract on construction was signed in September 2007. The new power block is scheduled to become operational in April, 2010.
