Today, President Serzh Sargsyan attended the official ceremony of inauguration of the renovated assembly hall of the Armenian Parliament. The President of Armenia congratulated the members of the Parliament on the occasion of opening of a modern and comfortable hall and addressed with words of appreciation all those who brought their participation to the project of renovation. In his welcoming remarks the President of Armenia said,

“Your Holiness,
Speaker of the National Assembly,
Members of the National Assembly,

I am glad to be here on the occasion of inauguration of the renovated assembly hall of the Parliament. I congratulate us all on this occasion and give my words of appreciation to all those who have participated in the renovation project.

The very first impression is striking. We have really been presented with an up-to-date and comfortable working place. Huge work has been done, and results of that work are observable.

It is pleasing that the National Assembly of Armenia will from now on conduct its meetings in this new hall which has been reconstructed keeping in mind hall designs from various countries.

Every parliament is called upon to represent the will of its people, all constituents, their interests and wishes. Opting for the democratic organization of our social and political life, we have also adopted the path of moving forward according to certain standards. I attach enormous importance to this deeply contemplated and measured choice.

A lot has already been accomplished along the way, however even more is yet to be done. Moreover, we’ll never stop working in this area; our works will be constantly aimed at the improvement of the structure and ensuring its incessant activities.

Parliament carries out not only legislative mission; it also plays the most important role in the division and balance of power.

With this regard, I would like to note with satisfaction that in the direst times, the Parliament of Armenia shared with the executive the burden of pulling the country out of the financial and economic crisis, assumed and carried its share of responsibility. In fact, all main anti-crisis steps initiated by the government were supported by the Parliament which allowed to implement the programs in the required scope and in due time. During the crisis, which shocked the world and brought to knees economies ten times more powerful than ours, thanks to coherent and synchronized steps of our executive and legislative bodies, salaries and pensions were not cut or delayed even for a second, the pace of raising combat readiness of our army didn’t slow down.

The best evidence of the vitality and essential role of the Armenian Parliament in the country’s state structure is the facility of the NA of the fourth convocation to withstand the challenges of the crisis and its collective ability to act swiftly and resolutely in the most difficult situations.

Dear Members of the National Assembly,

Creative streak and talent of our nation have manifested themselves in this magnificent structure – edifice of the National Assembly which is one of the outstanding achievements of the Armenian architecture of the XX century. Today, we together officially open the new assembly hall which is absolutely appropriate for this entire compound, this magnificent structure. I am confident that efforts aimed at the empowerment of our statehood and democracy will never cease here. I wish us all great success and once again congratulate on the inauguration of this renovated hall".
