President Serzh Sargsyan visited Mashtots Park in Yerevan

Today, on route to a meeting, President Serzh Sargsyan made a brief stop at the Mashtots Park in Yerevan. The President of Armenia walked through the Park and observed the newly installed trade pavilions. Then, he presented his views regarding the Park to the Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margarian and urged the Mayor to remove the structures. “Taron, the cleaning of Abovian street from these pavilions has been one of your major achievements. You also made a right decision in handling people’s property. Law may not be established through lawlessness, and comfort also must not be created through illegal steps. You have been right on every account. You’ve been right on this account too, you were right to make this temporary decision. In fact, all this would have been removed from this place in two or three years, but, Taron jan, you can see for yourself that this is not nice at all. I would like to repeat: the City Hall has been working efficiently. The decision was right, but this is really not nice, and would be great if you could find a way to take it all down. It will be a right decision. This view cannot “entertain” us for another two or three years, because we have said that every structure in Yerevan should be eye pleasing and, I repeat, it must be done in framework of the law,” President Serzh Sargsyan said.

President Sargsyan was approached by an environmental activist and asked for his opinion regarding the pavilions. Serzh Sargsyan told about his approaches and directions given to the Mayor. At the same time he underscored, “Yes, we all want our city to be beautiful, and every environmental rule observed, but all this must be done through the legal means. This is my standpoint.”

President Serzh Sargsyan praised also work of the policemen who carry out their duties at the Mashtots Park, thanked them and underlined that they have already made a step forward in maintaining public order and it is observable for himself personally and for our entire society. Serzh Sargsyan urged the policemen not to rest on the achievements, and move forward, constantly improving their work.
