Working visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Brussels

President Serzh Sargsyan, who is in the Kingdom of Belgium on a working visit, on March 17 in Brussels participated at the Summit of the European People’s Party (EPP). The Summit was chaired over by President of EPP Joseph Daul. Also present at the Summit were the Presidents of the European Council Donald Tusk and European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, Heads of states and governments of the EU member states and heads of the parties from the countries represented in Eastern Partnership program.

The participants of the Summit discussed current economic problems and prospects of development, spoke about present international challenges, including the crisis in Syria, problems of refugees, which have become a serious issue for Europe, political situation in the EU member states, and issues related to the EU neighborhood policy.

At the Summit, President Serzh Sargsyan made a statement in which he referred to the dynamically developing Armenia-EU relations and the process of development of cooperation in all mutually interesting areas, to the large-scale reforms implemented in Armenia which occupy a very important place in our relations with the European Union. Serzh Sargsyan spoke also about the developments in the Middle East and about the consequent refugee crisis which has become a serious challenge not only for the European countries but for other partner states and entire world.

On the margins of the EPP Summit, the President met with the Head of the Greek New Democrats Party Kiriakos Mitsotakis. The parties discussed issues related to the development of the interparty cooperation in the framework of the EPP as well as other issues of mutual interest. They also spoke about the recent official visit of the President of Armenia to Greece and high-level agreements reached in the framework of the visit.
