Today President Serzh Sarkissian received His Holiness, Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II and Catholicos of Great House of Cilicia, Aram I.
Noting that due to some circumstances he was not able to participate at the inauguration of the newly elected President, Catholicos Aram I said that he arrived to Armenia particularly to congratulate President Serzh Sarkissian and convey his support. He underlined that “Church and Motherland, faith and Armenianhood are one indivisible entirety for us, and we should work together within that entirety.”
Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II expressed confidence that the course of actions adopted today will, undoubtedly, yield results in the near future for everyone to see that concrete steps are being taken to build a motherland of our hopes and dreams.
The President of Armenia said that support of two Catholicoses makes it possible to accomplish a lot and achieve great results. He highly praised the role of Church in the life of the Armenian people and noted that during the 1000 years when there was no Armenian state, the Church assumed some functions of the state and the task of the preservation of the Armenian identity and honorably carried them out. Affirming that the State will continue to back the strengthening of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the President of Armenia said that the national Church should continue to remain one of the pillars of the Armenian spirit and national identity.
Catholicos of All Armenians and Catholicos of Great House of Cilicia expressed confidence that Serzh Sarkissian will continue to serve the country and our common aspirations and utmost interests with great responsibility and dedication. On behalf of their congregations and their own behalf they expressed readiness to support all the good initiatives that the President will take on to move the country forward.
