Today President Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretaries of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s Security Council

Today President Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretaries of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s Security Council, who arrived to Yerevan to participate at the meeting of the CSTO Security Council’s Committee.

The President of Armenia expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation in the framework of the CSTO. According to Serzh Sargsyan, the importance of cooperation in the areas of external threat, drugtrafficing, illegal migration, terrorism, and other threats is essential and leaves no room for imitative approach.

In President Sargsyan’s words, during her presidency at the CSTO, Armenia will strive toward enhancing the effectiveness of the Organization, and will spare no effort to achieve that goal.

Speaking about the recent events in South Ossetia, the President of Armenia noted that they proved the danger of the attempts to solve conflicts existing in the South Caucasus through the military means. The President of Armenia expressed confidence that the military attempts to solve the conflict are unworkable, and that the events in South Ossetia will have a sobering effect on those who still harbor similar hopes and continue to increase their military potential and make belligerent calls. “Imposed solutions, which run counter to the will of the people, in the South Caucasus are charged with grave military and geopolitical consequences,” President Serzh Sargsyan underlined.

Participants to the meeting assessed the works of the Yerevan session of the Committee of the Security Secretaries of the CSTO member states as interesting and efficient, noting that they have discussed the possible military and political developments on the territory of the CSTO and adjacent regions, also threats and challenges to the collective security, and the current situation in the Caucasian region.
