Second day of the official visit of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitri Medvedev

In the morning of October 21, the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitri Medvedev, who is conducting an official visit to Armenia, arrived to the Genocide Memorial. The President of Russia laid a wreath at the monument dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, visited the Genocide Museum, and planted a tree at the Commemoration Park.

Afterwards Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Dmitri Medvedev participated at the opening of the Russian Square and made statements.

From the Russian Square the leaders of the two states headed for the Presidential residence, where Serzh Sargsyan and Dmitri Medvedev held a private meeting.

The Presidents of Armenia and Russia discussed the whole range of the Armenian-Russian relations, spoke about the NK peace process, as well as the recent events and developments in the region. They also talked about some of the urgent international issues.

After the meeting of the two Presidents the negotiations were continues in the extended format. The main topic of the discussions was the Armenian-Russian economic cooperation which is developing consistently.

The Co-Chairs of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on cooperation the Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Sarkissian and the Minister of Transportation of the Russian Federation, Igor Levitin presented the issues under discussion and the results of the 10th session.

The negotiations were followed by the ceremony of signing the joint documents. Signed were the program of the interagency consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Russia for 2009-2010, the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and Government of Sverdlovsk region of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the areas of trade and economy, science and technology, and culture, as well as the agreement on cooperation in the areas of trade and economy, science and technology, and culture between the Administration of Armavir marzh of Armenia and the Government of Yaroslav region of the Russia.

Later there took place the ceremony of awarding the renowned polar explorer, scientist and public figure Arthur Chilingarov and the Minister of Transportation of the RF, Co-Chair of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on cooperation, Igor Levitin. By the September 17, 2008 decree of President Serzh Sargsyan, Arthur Chilingarov was awarded the St. Mesrop Mashtots Order and by the October 17, 2008 decree Igor Levitin was decorated with the Order of Honor for his significant contribution to the strengthening of friendly relations between the peoples of Armenia and Russia and development of economic relations between the two countries.

In conclusion, the Presidents of Armenia and Russia gave a joint press-conference.
