President Serzh Sargsyan received the Under Secretary General of the United Nations, Cheick Sidi Diara

Today President Serzh Sargsyan received the Under Secretary General of the United Nations, Cheick Sidi Diara, who has arrived to Yerevan to participate at the Global Innovation Forum for Education and Development.

The President of Armenia hailed assistance provided by the UN structures to our country.

Noting, that since her accession Armenia has been actively involved in the works of the Organization, Serzh Sargsyan said that without the direct assistance of the corresponding UN structures it would be difficult to develop and implement efficient programs in the number of areas.

“Our objective is to create a steadily developing society,” the President of Armenia stated and noted that the development of information technologies has been recognized by the Government of Armenia an issue of high priority. On route the establishment of the society with high information technologies, the state encourages the involvement and active participation of the young people.

Welcoming Armenia’s determination to develop information technologies and telecommunications, the high-ranking UN official said that it would allow to introduce the know-how into the development potential of the country, which is of particular importance for the land-locked countries such as Armenia.

The two sides agreed that the economy based on know-how allows the country to become much more competitive.

They also spoke about the alternative means of communication and stressed their necessity.

According to President Sargsyan, the increase of the communication opportunities could be greatly enhanced also by the level of advancement of the information technologies.
