President Serzh Sargsyan handed high state awards

On December 6, President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree to award Nikolai Ryzhkov, a member of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, with the highest state award - “National Hero of Armenia” - for his significant personal contribution to the rehabilitation works after the devastating earthquake of 1988 and for his outstanding moral support of the Armenian people in those difficult times. By another December 6 decree of the President of Armenia

were awarded with “Anania Shirakatsi” medals for their significant contribution to the elimination of the consequences of the devastating earthquake of 1988, managing the humanitarian assistance and rehabilitation works.

The official ceremony of handing over the high state awards took place today, at the Presidential Office.

Nikolai Ryzhkov expressed gratitude for awarding him with the highest state decoration and noted, “I am proud that I was with the people of Armenia in those difficult times and I am deeply touched that my works has met such a high recognition.”

Congratulating the parliamentarians, the President of Armenia said, “By handing these awards I carry out our people’s will.” Serzh Sargsyan thanked them for not only participating at the reconstruction works after the earthquake but first of all for the moral support provided by them to our people and their caring attitude.
