Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Special Representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Goran Lennmarker.

At the meeting discussed were issues related to the resolution of the NK conflict, Armenian -Turkish political dialogue, political and military developments in the South Caucasus region, as well as issues related to the “European Partnership” policy.

President Sargsyan praises the indispensable role of the OSCE in maintaining the ceasefire for over fifteen years and stressed the importance of the OSCE Minks Group efforts directed at the resolution of the conflict. The President of Armenia highlighted also the importance of cooperation with the OSCE in the context of strengthening democracy in Armenia.

The parties underlined that the August, 2008 events proved once again the inadmissibility of the attempts to solve the existing conflicts through military means, defining such intentions as “dangerous and unpromising”. Serzh Sargsyan stressed once again that Armenia expects a response from the corresponding international structures to the violation by some countries of the region of the existing legal agreements resulting in an unprecedented expansion of military potential and occasional militaristic rhetoric.

The Special Representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly assessed positively the ongoing NK peace process and welcomed consultations with the leaders of the political parties initiated by the President of Armenia. Goran Lennmarker hailed also efforts of the Armenian side directed at the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations. The two sides agreed that dialogue and cooperation is the best way to establish cooperation and peace in the region.

At the meeting the parties spoke also about the “European Partnership” initiative. The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stressed the importance of Armenia’s involvement in the program and underlined the importance of its regional cooperation component.
