President Serzh Sargsyan received the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov

The President of Armenia, President of the Armenian Chess Federation, Serzh Sargsyan received the President of FIDE, President of Kalmykia, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and his delegation.

The President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that each visit of the President of FIDE to Armenia signifies a start of a new program. He also said that time has come to implement the agreements reached during the 38th Chess Olympiad in Dresden.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov once again extended his congratulation on a brilliant victory of the Armenian team at the World Chess Olympiad and said, “it is difficult to become a champion but it is even more difficult to defend the title and not everyone is up to it. When it happens it means that there is an efficient system in place.” He hailed the activities of the Armenian authorities aimed at the development of chess playing in our country noting that “where is a serious approach, there is a result.”

The President of FIDE spoke about the organization’s efforts directed at the development and extension of chess playing. In this context the sides discussed the idea of constructing in Yerevan a Chess Palace, which was approved in general terms. They discussed also the possibility of introducing the chess playing as an extracurricular subject in the schools.

Serzh Sargsyan and Kirsan Ilyumzhinov spoke also about the preparations for the International Grand Prix Chess Tournament to be held in Yerevan in August.
