Today, President Serzh Sargsyan presented the newly appointed Mayor of Yerevan, Gagik Beglarian to the leadership of the City Hall and the community leaders.

According to the President, Ervand Zakharian, who was running the Mayor’s office for the last six years, did a great job serving the Yerevanians and said that “the Yerevan of today cannot be compared to the Yerevan of 2003.”

Serzh Sargsyan thanked the former Mayor for this work and noted that he would still have the opportunity to apply his knowledge and experience in other areas.

President Sargsyan expressed confidence that Gagik Beglarian would be able to provide a new impetus to the activities of the City Hall and his experience as the leader of the Center community would serve the common purpose. He also expressed confidence the new Mayor would be able to introduce positive communal elements without diminishing the role of the City Hall.

According to the President of Armenia, “today we must work better than yesterday, our legislation should be brought in line with the contemporary standards, our today should be different from our yesterday.” Assessing the decision adopted some years ago on merging the capital into one community as the right one, Serzh Sargsyan said, “we must do our best not to compromise the idea which is being successfully implemented all around the civilized world and should be equally successful for the residents of Yerevan.”
