President Serzh Sargsyan received Masud Ahmedi, the newly appointed Director of the IMF Department for Middle East and Central Asia.

The President of Armenia expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund as well as financial and advisory assistance provided by the organization to our country.

At the meeting the parties discussed issues pertaining to the mitigation of the repercussions of the global financial and economic crisis. Serzh Sargsyan underlined that the authorities would do the utmost to efficiently utilized existing capabilities and financial resources to provide assistance to the most affected areas of the economy and the neediest groups of the society.

The IMF regional director informed the President of Armenia on the issues discussed at the recently convened G-20 meeting in London and the reached agreements. He also insured that the IMF was striving to conduct a more flexible policy in providing financial assistance to the states taking into consideration the real needs. Stressing the importance of cooperation with Armenia, Masud Ahmedi expressed readiness to render necessary assistance to overcome difficulties facing our country.

Masud Ahmedi once again welcomed the introduction of a floating currency exchange rate and policies adopted by Armenia toward the preservation of the financial stability. President Serzh Sargsyan reiterated resolve of the Armenian leadership to carry on with the implementation of the reforms.
