President Serzh Sargsyan received the world famous conductor Valeri Gergiev

Today, musical society of Armenia will have an exceptional opportunity to watch the performance by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Marynskii Theatre led by the world famous conductor Valeri Gergiev. The concert is being organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. To celebrate the occasion, the great conductor has arrived to Armenia accompanied by the ballet legend Maya Plissetskaya, renowned composer Radio Schedrin, and great pianist Denis Matsuev. Today, the celebrated artists were received by Serzh Sargsyan.

Welcoming the visit of the great artists to Armenia, the President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that during last year many of the renowned Russian artists presented their art to the Armenian public. He also said that during the last meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Russia, extensive cooperation of the two countries in the cultural area was highly praised.

According to President Sargsyan, efficient cooperation in the humanitarian area and numerous contacts testify time and again to the spiritual ties of the two nations.

“I came to Armenia with great pleasure and special feelings,” – stressed the world famous conductor Valeri Gergiev. Noting, that among the artists of the orchestra performing today there were also Armenian artists, the Director of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Marynskii Theatre, Valeri Gergiev said that currently many talented Armenian musicians perform on different world stages and that Armenia can be justly proud of them.

Stressing the importance of this kind of contacts, the interlocutors underlined a great role of art in bringing people together.

Later, the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Marynskii Theatre, Valeri Gergiev was awarded the Saint Mesrop Mashtots order for his contribution to the development of the Armenian-Russian cultural ties.
