Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Special Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the South Caucasus, Bryan Foley.

The President of Armenia highly praised assistance provided by the United Kingdom to the process of reformation in our country. President Sargsyan said that recently in Prague he had discussed the possibilities of expanding the Armenian-British relations with the Foreign Secretary, David Miliband.

The proposal of the British side to conduct regular consultations between the foreign offices of the two countries was assessed by the President of Armenia as positive and useful, which in his words, would allow to familiarize with each other’s positions and approaches on different issues.

The two sides spoke also about the process of normalization the Armenian-Turkish relations. At the requests of Sir Bryan Foley, the President of Armenia gave his opinion regarding statements by different Turkish officials. Serzh Sargsyan said that as it has been mentioned repeatedly during the Armenian-Turkish contacts, any attempt by Turkey to interfere with the NK peace process could only jeopardize the entire process. According to the President of Armenia, if Turkey wants to assist in achieving peaceful resolution to the conflict, the best way to do it would be not to interfere at all.

Serzh Sargsyan and Bryan Foley exchanged also views on the NK peace process. The UK Special Representative in the South Caucasus said that the United Kingdom was supporting the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and believes the resolution of the conflict must be based on the principles of international law and international norms.
