Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby who is in Armenia in the framework of his regional visit.

Reiterating commitment of our country to the European values, the President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that the Eastern Partnership Summit, which took place recently in Prague, was a successful beginning for instilling new meaning in the Armenia-EU cooperation and deepen the ties. The parties expressed confidence that frequent meetings and discussions testify to the expansion of the Armenia-EU agenda, provide opportunity to response rapidly and find solutions to the arising problems. The interlocutors gave a positive assessment to the balanced approach regarding the resolution of the NK conflict restated in the Final Declaration of the Prague Summit.

At the meeting Serzh Sargsyan and Peter Semneby spoke also about the Armenian-Turkish political dialogue, prospects of a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, and deepening of democratic reforms in Armenia.

The President of Armenia stressed once again that our country sees the resolution of the NK conflict in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, based on the Madrid Principles, international law and all the principles enshrined in the basic documents – right for self determination, non-use of force – and the Helsinki Declaration adopted at the OSCE Ministerial Council.

The President of Armenia underscored the readiness of our country to normalize relations with Turkey without preconditions, based on the reached agreements and established timetable, stressing once again that any attempt by Turkey to interfere in the NK peace process would have a negative effect on the entire process of negotiations.

Peter Semneby informed the President of Armenia on the outcome of the Eastern Corridor summit in Prague on energy and transportation issues and steps to be taken by the EU in that area.
