President Serzh Sargsyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Urmas Paet

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Urmas Paet, who is in our country on official visit.

“Armenia believes in the importance of deepening bilateral relations with Estonia as well as multilateral relations in the framework of the European Union,” the President of Armenia said and expressed confidence that the current visit of the Estonian Foreign Minister would be another step toward the expansion of our cooperation. Serzh Sargsyan also said that the experience accumulated by the Baltic states could be useful for Armenia.

The President of Armenia praised Estonia’s involvement in the group of experts dispatched to Armenia by the EU, stressed the importance of their work and said that Armenia strives to make the most of the opportunities provided by the EU Eastern Partnership program.

The Head of the Estonian Foreign Office underlined existing friendly relations between the two countries and said that his visit is aimed at the expansion of the wide-ranging cooperation. He informed that a number of Estonian businessmen have arrived with him to Armenia to find common ground for cooperation with their Armenian partners. Noting that the turnover between Estonia and Armenia is still low, Serzh Sargsyan said that the level of information regarding business opportunities for both sides is not high yet and stressed the importance of holding an Armenian-Estonian business forum.

The President of Armenia underlined also the importance of educational and cultural cooperation and added that this year Armenia would be celebrating the 200th birth anniversary of the great Armenian enlightener, writer and teacher Khatchatur Abovian, who spend part of his life in Estonia and studied at the University of Tartu.

The President of Armenia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia discussed also the possibility of mutually easing the entry visa processing.

At the request of the Estonian Foreign Minister, President Serzh Sargsyan briefly presented the latest developments in the NK peace process and the process of normalization of the Armenia-Turkey relations.
