Armenian-Syrian Business Forum with the participation of the Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Bashar Al-Asad
Today, at the Government Reception House with the participation of the Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Bashar Al-Asad there took place the official ceremony of the opening of the Armenian-Syrian Business Forum.

Statement by the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan at the Armenian-Syrian Business Forum
Mr. President,
Distinguished representatives of business community,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I welcome you all and wish the Armenian-Syrian Business Forum productive work.
The Armenian-Syrian friendship rests on firm ground. In current political and economic reality our countries are building relations of a new quality – warm and dynamically developing relations where political and economic cooperation should be on the same level.
This objective is not just a good wish but a reachable goal since entrepreneurs of the Armenian origin are well-represented in the Syrian business community. Among important means for reaching that goal I would place active contacts between the businesses of the two countries as well as our, and I am sure this desire is mutual, political will to create the most favorable conditions for the businesses. During our meetings with President Al-Asad we paid special attention to the issues related to the further development of trade and economic relations between our two countries.
Unfortunately, mutually friendly and brotherly feelings of our two peoples and level of political dialogue do not translate into the equally high level of trade and economic ties. The Governments of our two countries have been able to create a fairly conducive legal framework for the development of economic relations. In addition, during President Asad’s visit to our country the Agreement on Encouragement and Protection of Investments has been signed, which is a significant step toward further the enhancement of trade relations.
This Forum is an excellent opportunity for familiarizing with each other’s achievements in this area and establishing business contacts. I am confident that there is great potential in the areas of science and technology, agriculture, energy, urban development, tourism, trade, financial and banking services and your task is to identify realistic targets for the utilization of that potential.
With this regard, I would like to identify special role of our compatriots residing in Syria. I would ask you to use your abilities and business contacts to help to highlight existing trade and economic potential of our two countries and to introduce production of our countries in each other’s market.
Please be assured that every new initiative, any project aimed at the enhancement of economic relations and business contacts will get our support.
I wish the Forum fruitful work and call upon you all to work actively for mutual benefit.
