President Serzh Sargsyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of Italy to Armenia

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of Italy to Armenia Bruno Scapini.

The President of Armenia congratulated the Ambassador on his nomination and expressed hope that during his tenure in office the Armenian-Italian relations would develop and deepen.

Stressing Armenia’s interest in developing multifaceted relations with Italy, President Sargsyan said that mutual desire, historical similarities and values shared by the two peoples constitute a solid foundation for it. According to the President, the Armenian-Italian cooperation has excellent prospects for development in multilateral framework as well.

Underlining mutual appreciation and traditionally warm relations, Ambassador Spanini said that he would do his best to strengthen the existing cooperation and create new opportunities. Among priority issues on his agenda Ambassador Spanini noted enhancement of trade relations and high level reciprocal visits.

The parties discussed also regional issues. President Sargsyan hailed Italy’s balanced position on the sensitive regional issues. President Sargsyan reiterated Armenia’s determination to solve the existing problems through peaceful means, noting that the opportunities to do it are there. Ambassador Scapini said that Italy has been constantly supporting the peace process.

Wishing the newly appointed Ambassador success, President Sargsyan said that Mr. Scapini was commencing his work in a country which is not rich with natural resources but is rich with historical and cultural heritage, desire to live by the European standards and good will to normalize relations with its neighbors.
